Yorkshire seems to be a leading light in natural burial grounds:

Brocklands Woodland Burial, Settle, North Yorkshire.

Brocklands Woodland Burial is a small, secluded burial ground near Settle, North Yorkshire. It nestles between the Dales and the Forest of Bowland in the beautiful Ribble Valley.   It opened in 2000 and offers natural burials where a tree is planted on each grave, and plots are arranged in small copses with woodchip paths weaving around the site. Families from all over the UK choose Brocklands because of its location and its ethos of only using native plants and trees. We welcome both religious and non-religious funerals, and families are free to arrange the burial as they wish. Our facilities include a small converted barn for ceremonies; a toilet; ample car parking, and coffins for sale.”

South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground, Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Established in 1996, the South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground was one of the first cemeteries in the country to be established exclusively for woodland burials. It is open to people of all faiths and to people of none.

Nestled in a dip in a country lane (Ulley Lane/ Turnshaw Road) that runs between the village of Ulley and Aston-cum-Aughton, there are now over five hundred trees marking the graves, and ashes plots, of those buried there.” – Natural burial grounds Yorkshire

Southfield Lane Cemetery, York, Yorkshire.

Our natural burial ground is managed on ecologically sound lines, to provide an informal nature-rich environment for peaceful reflections on our own lives and those of our loved ones who rest there. People of all faiths are welcome.

The use of eco-friendly coffins and ashes caskets ensure that no damage is done to the environment. The sowing of wildflower seeds and the planting of bulbs is encouraged throughout all the changing seasons, the beauty of nature is apparent and timeless: the spring of the year, so pretty with blossoms, new green and promise; summer, with sunlit dappled leafy shades; the vibrancy of autumn and drama of the winter landscape. Wildlife, birdsong and a carpet of wildflowers amid native trees provide a peaceful resting place.

The funeral of a loved one is a time of sadness and grief; however, a natural burial can also be a time to celebrate life in that it is a very positive way in which to put life back into the environment following death. The natural burial ground will be managed ecologically and left an undisturbed haven for flora and fauna.” – Natural burial grounds Yorkshire

‘When the sun sets on a life, be it human or animal, you DO have a choice on what happens to the mortal remains; make yours now and enjoy peace of mind.”
